Ivan has devastated the island of Grand Cayman, we have no power and no water 95% of houses are damaged 10% or there abouts beyond repair.

During the storm we had sustained winds of 170mph for 7 hours or there abouts. Gusts way over 200mph.

My house lost its roof and ceilings and most of my clothes got ruined but i managed to get everything out.
I am living in my good friend Sue’s house (now her bed now she has left) and and basically homeless untyil i find somewhere else.

Times are very hard many people living like peasants basically, hard to keep clean and keep your stuff clean as everywhere is dirty and most of it is dried sewage water.

I am staying on the island as i want to be a part of this rebuild but it will be slow and hard work. We are making great progress, power is slowly coming back to some places, CUC is kicking butt, water is also creeping back out.

I do have loads of photos which I will be putting up soon, but i need some time for that. If you want to contact me I am (345) 917 2999 or email giles AT shaxted.co.uk

I am in sporadic computer access at work now. If you want to visit Cayman you will have to wait, but don’t expect what you are used to either, the island is different, ruined and on the way to being better than ever, this is a nice clean start and a great opportunity for everyone to make the changes this island needed.

I am so glad you are ok. It has been hard to learn anything about how Cayman fared the hurricane. Please e-mail me when you have a chance Giles.
